A home projector and large screen

Yes, you can watch Amazon Prime on a projector by using the Prime Video app on your smartphone to mirror or screencast to a smart projector.

If your projector has an HDMI port, all you’ll need to watch Prime is an Amazon Fire Stick or another streaming dongle that you can plug right into your projector.

You can also connect your Android or Apple smartphone or tablet to your projector using their charging cable, an adaptor, and an HDMI cable.

And if your projector is old and doesn’t have an HDMI connection, you could use a converter to connect from your projector’s DisplayPort or DVI connection to an HDMI-capable device.

How To Access Amazon Prime And Watch It On A Projector

To access Amazon Prime Video, you’ll need a device that can log in to the website or download the app.

You can do this using a Smart TV, computer, gaming console, phone, tablet, Roku box, or Amazon Fire Stick.

Any of these devices will allow you to download the Prime Video app to avail of all the shows and movies Amazon has to offer.

Some of the devices come with the apps already installed and the Amazon Fire Stick is purpose-built for it.

But how can you use a projector to enjoy Prime with any of the devices mentioned above?

Using A Smart Projector To Watch Amazon Prime

Many modern projectors now come equipped with various features making them compatible with our smartphones and other devices.

One of those features is screen mirroring or screencasting.

Using this feature, you can pull up the video you wish to watch on the Amazon Prime Video app on your phone and then share the screen and audio to the projector.

However, some projectors may require you to download a companion app on your phone to act as a bridge between your phone and the projector.

When you’re selecting something to watch on the Prime app, you should see a little rectangle displaying a WiFi signal within it somewhere on the screen.

Pressing the rectangle should present you with a list of devices to stream to.

Using An Amazon Fire Stick

You can plug the Fire Stick into the HDMI port on the projector and you’re good to go.

Next, plug the fire stick into your projector using the HDMI connection.

Once your projector is powered on, you should see a quick start settings guide to follow along with.

Select your language, and which WiFi network to connect to.

Once you’ve connected to your network, you’re Fire TV Stick will check for updates and update if necessary.

And that’s more or less it.

Soon after the software updates, you should see your Fire TV home screen with all of the popular apps, games, movies, and TV shows.

Connect Your iPhone To A Projector To Watch Amazon Prime

To watch Amazon Prime on your projector using your iPhone you’ll need a projector, a screen to project onto, your iPhone, an HDMI cable, and a lightning to HDMI adaptor (the official one from Apple, if possible).

First, turn on your projector and your iPhone.

If you are having connectivity issues, restarting both your phone and projector usually solves it.

Next, connect the HDMI cable to your projector, connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the lightning adaptor and connect the lightning adaptor to your iPhone.

If after a few seconds the projector is not displaying your phone’s screen, look for the source button on your projector and press it until you find HDMI 1 or whichever port you plugged your phone into.

Once your phone’s screen is being displayed by the projector, you should be able to use your iPhone to go into your Amazon Prime app, play whatever content you like, and watch it through the projector.

With this setup, your iPhone will send audio to your projector so if your projector does not have built-in speakers you may need to plug a soundbar into the audio-out connection on your projector.

Connecting A PC Or Laptop Via HDMI

If you don’t have a Fire Stick, you can also use an HDMI cable to connect your laptop or computer to the projector.

If the projector does not have an HDMI connection but has a DisplayPort or DVI connection, you can use a converter from that connection to HDMI and still utilize an HDMI-capable device.

Connecting Your Android Phone Or Tablet To Your Projector By Cable

To watch Prime Video on your projector using an android device, you’ll need a projector, a screen, your Android phone or tablet, an HDMI cable, and a USB-C or micro USB to HDMI connector.

First, turn on your Android device and projector.

Next, plug your HDMI cable into your projector, connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the USB adaptor and connect the USB-C or a micro USB to your phone.

If the projector isn’t displaying your phone’s screen, locate the source button on the back of your projector and press it till you find the HDMI port you plugged your phone into.

Once your Android phone’s screen is displaying via the projector, you should be able to go into your Amazon Prime app, play the content you like, and watch through your projector.

Your Android device will send audio to your projector so if there are no built-in speakers you may need to plug a soundbar into the audio-out connection on your projector.

What If My Projector Only Has An AV Connection?

If your projector is really old and has only an AV connection, with the yellow, red, and white cables, you’ll need to get a converter box from that analog connection to a digital audio-video signal.

Using External Speakers For Your Projector Setup

If the projector does not have its own speakers, you’ll have to set up your own.

Most people with projector setups use some type of sound system because built-in projector speakers are usually terrible. (like phone or tablet speakers).

Sound system setups can be anything from using a basic soundbar to a full surround sound system.

Many modern projectors will have built-in audio.

If yours doesn’t, you’ll want to connect whatever adapters you need to get your phone to connect to the video, then connect your phone to some Bluetooth speakers.

Failing that, you may be able to use your phone or tablet’s internal speakers or connect external speakers to the audio jack if your phone has them.

Buying And Setting Up A Projector To Watch Amazon Prime

If you are buying all new tech for this setup, it would be best to go with a projector with smart features allowing you to wirelessly cast to it.

Another good option would be to get a projector with an HDMI port and then grab an Amazon Fire Stick which can be plugged into the projector and allow you to access the Amazon Prime Video app.

Try To Buy A Projector With Decent Built-In Speakers

The Firestick doesn’t have an audio output, so you have to connect it via Bluetooth, or some projectors have an audio pass-through function.

Additionally, you’ll want to have a projector that has its own internal audio speakers so you won’t have to mess with external speakers.

The only downside to this is that sometimes the projector’s internal speakers can be a bit tinny sounding.

But you can connect Bluetooth speakers or run wires to connect speakers with cables as well.

Hopefully, one of the options we’ve listed will get you up and running with watching Amazon Prime in home-theatre style!
